Why choose this course?

If you're curious about how creativity shapes communities, drives innovation and makes a real impact, this major is for you.

Explore how arts, culture and communication can inspire social change, build inclusive communities and create meaningful experiences.

You’ll build practical skills in marketing, project planning, stakeholder engagement and entrepreneurship, while working on real-world projects that respond to community needs.

This course will prepare you to pitch ideas with impact, lead creative initiatives that respond to real community or industry needs, and contribute meaningfully across the arts, media and cultural sectors.

Real-world learning

From your first year, you’ll explore how arts and culture shape communities and identities. Real-world projects will connect theory with practice, while collaboration with community and industry partners helps design creative solutions for social and cultural challenges.

Throughout the course, two community engagement units provide opportunities to work with local organisations, gaining insight into the opportunities and challenges within your community. This experience is later expanded through practical application in a workplace setting, where you’ll solve problems and make meaningful contributions.

A work-integrated learning internship offers you the chance to apply your skills in a professional environment. It’s a valuable opportunity to build industry connections, put knowledge into practice, and grow confidence. These experiences are designed to help you graduate with practical know-how, creative problem-solving abilities, and a strong understanding of how their skills translate into the workplace.

What to expect

This major prepares you to work in cultural and creative industries with a strong focus on inclusion, diversity and ethical practice.

Throughout the degree, you’ll gain insight into how the creative sector operates, from freelancing to corporate settings and discover where your passions fit.

With the flexible nature of this major, you can choose to specialise in one of the following areas, depending on your career goals:

Media and Communication

This option is ideal if you're curious about how audiences engage with media, entertainment and news. You'll explore how these industries understand and connect with people, and learn practical skills like conducting interviews and writing research proposals. It’s a great fit if you’re interested in media, marketing or communication roles within the creative industries.

Community Arts

If you’re passionate about using creativity to bring people together, this option focuses on transforming public spaces through collaborative projects. You’ll learn how to analyse community needs, develop creative ideas that respond to those needs, and work in teams to develop and present real-world initiatives. It’s perfect if you want to make a tangible impact through arts and culture, to give you a strong foundation for careers in cultural programming, arts policy, cultural development and community engagement.

Stakeholder Engagement and Marketing

If you're drawn to strategic communication, public relations or advertising, this option gives you hands-on experience in designing campaigns, engaging stakeholders and pitching creative solutions. You’ll learn how to develop marketing communication plans and present ideas to real clients, preparing you for roles in PR, brand strategy, corporate communication or creative consultancy.

You’ll study:

  • how the creative industries shape cultural development and drive socially engaged arts practices
  • community programming and its impact on participation, inclusion and policy.
  • how to identify opportunities for creative ventures through project planning, risk assessment and how to write funding proposals and identify funding opportunities.
  • interdisciplinary cultural practices and respectful engagement with diverse communities.
  • a deep dive into a case study of a business, and learn about factors that impact a business or organisations performance and strategy
  • learn research methods to inform cultural development and creative practice.

Your learning will have an emphasis on real-world experience, with opportunities to collaborate across disciplines and apply your skills in community and industry settings.

With careful curation of your second major, you can tailor your degree to suit your career goals, whether that’s in policy, digital learning, community education or disaster preparedness.

Double degrees

Combine your Bachelor of Arts (Creative industries) degree with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and graduate with two qualifications in just 5.5 years. This double degree is ideal for students who want to shape policy, lead cultural change, and advocate for inclusive and ethical practices across creative and legal sectors.
