Real-world learning with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation
As part of the final year Bachelor of Business capstone unit, QUT Business School students had the ultimate opportunity to tackle a real-world problem for the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC). Responsible for delivering two of Australia’s most iconic motorsport events - the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix (MotoGP) - the AGPC asked more than 600 final-year business students to think big and devise innovative strategies to attract more international visitors to these sell-out spectacles. The top three performing teams were flown down to Melbourne to pitch their solutions directly to AGPC’s C-Suite and stakeholders from Tourism Victoria.

In today's data-driven economy, strategic business analytics forms the decision-intelligence engine of modern organisations, connecting insight, technology and business leadership.
This major will prepare you to lead with insight in a rapidly evolving digital world. Build a strong foundation in business while developing the ability to critically assess analytics approaches, understand their economic and strategic impact and guide organisations in adopting emerging technologies responsibly.
Rather than focusing on coding-heavy data science, this major develops your capability to evaluate advanced analytics - including optimisation, simulation and AI-enabled decision systems -and determine when and how they create real business value.
Through core business units, you'll develop a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, business ethics and professional communication - skills that are in high demand.
In your major, you will:
- frame business problems analytically and apply appropriate digital tools to generate data-driven insights across organisational contexts
- use forecasting and scenario planning to evaluate uncertainty and long-term performance
- assess the value of data and analytics initiatives
- understand governance, regulatory and ethical considerations in responsible AI adoption, including algorithmic accountability, privacy regulation and data sovereignty
- develop communication skills that will enable you to explain analytics-informed recommendations
- learn to apply analytical insight across various business functions including marketing, finance, operations and risk management
- integrate analytics, strategy and governance in a final-year capstone experience.
Real-world learning
From your first year, you'll engage in practical learning experiences that reflect real business environments. You'll analyse real organisational challenges, develop technology-enabled proposals and apply structured decision-making frameworks to complex scenarios.
Throughout the major, you will examine real-world governance failures, participate in simulated regulatory hearings and evaluate authentic cases involving algorithmic accountability and data-driven risk.
In your final year capstone, you will integrate analytics, strategy and governance to deliver evidence-based recommendations that demonstrate your readiness to contribute in professional settings.
In addition, our WIL program offers internship opportunities with leading organisations, helping you build valuable professional networks and gain practical industry experience.
Careers and outcomes
The strategic business analytics major will prepare you to operate in data-rich environments across commercial enterprises, government agencies, small and medium businesses, and not-for-profit organisations. You'll be prepared to support strategic planning, performance improvement and responsible technology adoption in an increasingly digital economy.
