Real-world experience
'The opportunities I had through QUT Business School, such as international case competitions, sparked my passion for business and helped launch my career. I began as a graduate consultant at Woolworths Group, gaining hands-on experience across liquor, ecommerce and retail. I later joined Amazon as Video Games Retail Manager, working with global brands like PlayStation and Nintendo to bring great games to Australian players. Now I’m the Senior Project Manager for Kindle, where I help shape the customer experience for millions of Australians.'
Senior Product Manager, Kindle, Bachelor of Business (Finance)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) graduate
Practical experience
'QUT really lives up to its tagline "the university for the real world". Practical learning has been embedded throughout my degree - from solving real business problems and analysing current legal cases to completing internships with industry partners. This real-world application has set me up for success, teaching me how to be adaptable and thrive in the workplace. I've already seen how relevant my studies are in industry, and I’m confident I’ll be ready for wherever my career takes me.'
Bachelor of Business (Management)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
Career-defining opportunities
'QUT gave me countless opportunities to learn both in and beyond the classroom. Through internships and clerkships, I explored different career paths and discovered what I truly wanted to pursue. Real-world industry projects embedded in my units gave me hands-on experience across multiple sectors, while clubs and societies helped me build lifelong friendships and a global network. One of the most transformative experiences was my exchange to Arizona State University in the US, which inspired me to live and work overseas. Now I’m a Vice President in Macquarie Group’s Fund Finance team in New York City.'
Vice President at Macquarie Group, Bachelor of Business (Finance)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) graduate
Real-world ready
'Every aspect of my degree has set me up for a successful career. Through my involvement in the QUT Law Society, hands-on industry projects, real-world teachers and mentorship via the Law Founders' Scholarship, I’ve developed the knowledge, skills, and connections needed to excel in my career. My ultimate goal is to become a barrister - and maybe even establish my own law firm or business one day. Thanks to QUT, I feel confident and ready to take on the future.'
Bachelor of Business/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) student
Future-focused
'QUT’s future-focused law degree equipped me with the confidence to navigate the modern world of law. Their innovative units, like Artificial Intelligence, Robots and the Law, and Law, Privacy and Data Ethics, empowered me to tackle emerging challenges head-on and develop unique skills essential in today’s legal landscape.'
Bachelor of Business (Public Relations)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours)
Dual expertise
‘I always knew I wanted to go to university, even as the first in my family to study. Coming from a rural community, I was especially interested in understanding the legal system, as there’s often a lack of awareness about what the law means. I chose to do a double degree with accounting, because it complemented law so well—whether it’s commercial law, fraud matters in criminal law, or property settlements in family law. Plus, it provides a balance to the heavier legal study.’
Bachelor of Business (Accounting)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) student
Support for students
'Studying at QUT is rewarding. There are always people here to help you and give you the opportunity to do the best you can. QUT's support has been important in my success in balancing study and playing at an elite level in Rugby with the Queensland Reds. I chose to study a Bachelor of Business (Finance)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) because rugby doesn’t last forever. I’m keen to give myself options and connections. Already it's been helpful for footy, with contracts and understanding the legalities.'
Bachelor of Business (Finance)/Bachelor of Laws (Honours) student
Career oriented learning
'I originally chose a double degree for employability, and QUT had a great reputation for both law and business, as well as work integrated learning. I'm finding there's plenty of cross-over between work and uni. I'm using the skills and knowledge I've gained at QUT at work, and work has given me skills like professional writing that I’ve been able to use with my uni assignments.'

What you'll study
Build a strong foundation in key areas of law, including contract law, legal research, equity and trusts, constitutional law, administrative law, and commercial and personal property law. You'll also develop a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders perspectives, and have the opportunity to explore emerging areas of legal practice, such as environment, social and governance (ESG) issues, and the intersection of law, technology and innovation.
Through core business units, you’ll develop a strong foundation in critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, business ethics and professional communication—skills that are in high demand across all industries. You’ll also choose a specialisation from our range of business majors, allowing you to tailor your studies to your career goals and graduate as a confident professional in your chosen field.
Real-world learning
At QUT, we prepare our students for the modern world of law. What makes our law degree unique is our balance between legal principles and practice. With our practical, hands-on approach to teaching, you will gain a comprehensive understanding of the Australian legal system and the core areas of law required for admission to legal practice in Australia.
With over 600 industry partners, we offer placements in a variety of settings, including community legal centres, in-house legal teams, law firms, and governmental and non-governmental organisations. Whether through placements in a legal practice, research projects or community engagement, our programs are designed to bridge the gap between legal education and professional practice.
This practical, hands-on approach to learning continues in your business degree. Starting from your very first semester, you’ll engage in real-world learning experiences with QUT Business School and our industry and community partners. You’ll develop skills, gain valuable experience and build confidence throughout your course, preparing you for a successful transition into your professional career. You will also complete the business Real World Ready capstone unit, where you’ll work individually and as part of a team to present analyses and recommendations to an industry or community partner.
As part of our work integrated learning (WIL) program, you'll also have the opportunity to work on real-world projects, engage with industry professionals and complete professional work placements.
Careers and outcomes
Leverage your combined expertise in business and law to pursue specialist careers in areas such as corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, company takeovers, corporate governance, compliance, taxation, insolvency, and intellectual property law. Or become a professional in the area of your chosen business major.
Professional recognition
The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is a Legal Practitioners' Admissions Board (LPAB) approved law degree, meaning you are eligible for admission to the Australian Legal Profession. To become a solicitor, you must also complete LPAB approved Practical Legal Training. We are one of the few Australian Law Schools to offer approved Practical Legal Training through our Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice. To work as a Barrister there are additional training requirements after you are admitted to the legal profession.
